Press Release Tuesday 10th Dec 2013
GlenUrquhart Shinty Club have confirmed their team managers for season 2014. David Menzies and Billy MacLean will co-manage the 1st team and Iain MacLeod will manage the 2nd team.
Club Chairman Russell Fraser said, “With the challenges of the new league structure for 2014, it was imperative to have experienced management teams in place for both squads. We will be playing in a reduced Premier League certainly but the change in the nature of North Division 1 is even more of a challenge in that our youngsters will be up against more mature players from clubs who missed out on promotion to the new national Division 1.
Iain has worked incredibly hard over the last two years to develop the 2nd team so we are delighted he has agreed to steer the team through what will undoubtedly the toughest challenge our 2nd team has faced at league level.
We are pleased to announce that Billy and David have decided to return to management with the 1st team. They were last at the helm in 2009 and from that perspective they know the players and the set up and we can look forward to the business of preparing for the new season secure in the knowledge that we have the right management in place throughout the club.”
GUSC are delighted to post the following news article on behalf of the community.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON
VILLAGE GREEN, DRUMNADROCHIT
AT 6.30PM ON MONDAY 2 DECEMBER 2013
Congratulations to the winners of the school competition – Hazel and Duncan McCallum, and a BIG THANK YOU to them both for their perfect switch-on of our lovely Christmas tree lights and also to everyone involved in getting everything organised to be ready for the switch-on.
More THANK YOUs: to Karen Beach and her efficient helpers in the tent for providing delicious hot chocolate and coffee and mince pies; to our carol singers who were in very good voice; to Archie Drennan who played a variety of Christmas carols on his bagpipes; and, finally, to John Beaton of Highland Council’s Lighting Department and his two stalwarts Alistair Wemyss and Bill Neilson for making it all possible. Here are some of Angela Veitch’s photos of our very happy switch-on event on Monday 2 December 2013.
And, as seen in the last photo, Pat Veitch would like to extend her sincere thanks to Alan Bell who presented her with a very special M & S Gift Voucher on behalf of everyone in Glenurquhart Community in appreciation of all her work. What an absolutely lovely unexpected surprise!
